The Dhaka University authority on Saturday postponed all its internal classes and examinations scheduled for Sunday.
The internal classes and examinations in the DU-affiliated/constituent institutions, colleges have also been postponed for the day.
The decision came after a number of students were injured and widespread panic was reported among students and teachers due to the recent earthquake.
Dhaka University controller of examinations on Saturday evening issued an urgent notice saying the rescheduled dates for the postponed exams will be announced in due course.
Meanwhile, Dhaka University on Saturday held an emergency meeting to review the situation that emerged on the campus following the Saturday evening earthquake.
The meeting, chaired by vice-chancellor professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, was held at the conference room adjacent to his office.
The meeting decided to immediately conduct room-by-room inspections of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall and other old or vulnerable buildings in the presence of a BUET expert team.
The inspection will begin on Sunday morning at Mohsin Hall and will later cover other halls in phases, said a press聽 release issued by the university鈥檚 public relations office.
Hall provosts, residential teachers and representatives of the DUCSU and hall unions will be included in the team.
The technical assessment report will be made public, and if any building is found risky, students will be relocated.
The meeting was informed that the Tk149-crore project for repair and renovation of DU buildings is scheduled to begin in the second week of December.
The ongoing renovation of 175 rooms at Mohsin Hall will continue and be completed as soon as possible, the meeting was further informed.
Pro-vice-chancellor (administration) professor Sayema Haque Bidisha, pro-vice-chancellor (academic) professor Mamun Ahmed, treasurer professor M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, BUET professor Ishtiaque Ahmed, proctor Saifuddin Ahmed, provosts of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall and Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Huq聽 Hall, acting registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed, leaders of DUCSU and hall unions, the acting chief engineer and officials of the planning and development office attended the meeting.
