
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology Teachers’ Association formed a human chain, condemning the use of force by the police on the engineering students, on the BUET campus in Dhaka on Thursday.
They also held a meeting and demanded the government to quickly identify those responsible and take legal action, subject to a proper investigation of the incident, said a press release.
The meeting also demanded that the inclusion of engineering university teacher representatives in any committee formed at the national level in this regard and the restoration of a fair educational environment at the university be ensured by resolving the issue of reasonable demands regarding the appointment of graduate engineers as soon as possible.
The BUET Teachers’ Association stated that it was the government’s duty to promptly implement the reasonable demands of the students and take effective and exemplary action against those involved in this attack on students.
Recently, engineering students of various educational institutions offering BSc have been protesting, demanding protection of their rights in the appointment of assistant engineers or equivalent positions and elimination of quota discrimination in the relevant grades.
In continuation of this, on August 27, the police charged the peaceful students and fired tear gas, water cannons and sound grenades and injured many students, added the press release.
