The authorities of National University have taken decision to give July Martyr Memorial Scholarship every year to recognise the roles of youths during the July mass uprising.

The chief advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday handed over the scholarship cheques to three NU students after inaugurating the month-long programme on the anniversary of the July Uprising at his office, said a press release issued by the chief adviser's press wing.


Under this scholarship, one-time financial assistance will be provided to meritorious students with special needs, marginalised and disadvantaged students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels of various colleges and institutes affiliated to the university.

This year, a total of 2,040 students from 725 institutions under the NU will get this scholarship.

The three students who got the cheques from the chief adviser are — Habiba Akhter, of Siddheshwari Girls College, SM Abu Taleb, of Tejgaon Government College, and Khandaker Mahmudul Hasan, of Dhaka Commerce College.

There are about 2,150 colleges and 4 million students under the university in the country.
