A group of students who failed in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations on Tuesday again confined employees of the Mymensingh education board for about three hours demanding cancellation of ‘discriminatory results’ and their re-evaluation.
The students staged demonstrations twice this week to press home their demands.
This year’s HSC and equivalent examinations’ results were published on October 15 using the subject mapping method on six cancelled subjects, based on the students’ results in the Secondary School Certificate and equivalent examinations, and through the usual evaluation of answer scripts of the seven exams.
On Tuesday, the students gathered in Town Hall area in the city at around 11:00am.
From there, they went to the board at around 12:00pm and urged the authorities to re-evaluate the results by using the subject mapping method on all subjects.
They claimed that the recent HSC results following the subject mapping method for only cancelled exams were discriminatory.
At around 3:00pm, they locked the main gate of the board while board chairman Md Abu Taher and other officials were inside their offices. Â
Md Rimon Rahman, one of the protesting students, said that their demand was logical, but the board officials said that they could not do anything with the education ministry’s decision.
He vowed to continue their protest.
Moushumi Akhter, a student who failed in Bangla and English subjects in the exams, claimed that if subject mapping had been done on all subjects then the results would have been much better. Â
At around 6:00pm, the students opened the lock following request of the board chairman and other officials.
‘We have informed the higher authorities about the students’ demand,’ Abu Taher said, adding, ‘Without authorities’ decision, we cannot do anything.’
Earlier on Monday, the students submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner with their demands.
Before that on Sunday they staged a demonstration in front of the board and confined the board officials for several hours till night.
The Dhaka Education Board chairman Professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar on Monday submitted a letter to the education ministry requesting his resignation following the demand of students.
Earlier, he announced his resignation on Sunday evening after a day-long student protest for the cancellation of the HSC and equivalent results and their re-evaluation.
