Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited posted record unaudited profit of Tk 937 crore for the 2024-25 financial year.

According to a press release, this amount is the highest in 55 years.

The national flag carrier attributed this success to efficient resource management, strategic planning and improvements in passenger services.

The Biman press release said that the airline鈥檚 previous highest profit was Tk 440 crore recorded in FY22.

In FY25, Biman earned Tk 11,631 crore, while in FY24 it first surpassed the Tk 10,000-crore revenue mark.

Since its establishment in 1972, national flag carrier Biman has been profitable in 26 years and incurred losses in the rest.

Currently, Biman鈥檚 fleet consists of 21 aircraft, of which it owns 19. The fleet includes four Boeing 787-8s and two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.

Biman鈥檚 in-house maintenance capacity, from routine checks to major overhauls, is its key strength that allows it to cut costs, reduce delays and ensure international safety standard.

After its transformation into a public limited company in 2007, the airline has gained Tk 589 crore in profit over the past 18 years, which is proof of its stability and long-term success, the release said.

In FY25, the national flag carrier Biman carried 3.4 million passengers and about 44,000 tonnes of cargo, achieving a cabin factor of 82 per cent compared with that of the previous year.

In January 2025, it recorded the highest ticket sales in its history. Faster baggage delivery, upgraded in-flight services and modernised airport procedures have helped to increase passenger satisfaction, the release said.

Biman has credited its new management appointed by the interim government for the record profit, pointing to tighter financial controls, better use of resources and quick decision-making.
