Habibur Rahman Sohan smashed the fastest T20 hundred for Bangladesh to steer the A side to a dominating eight-wicket win over Hong Kong in their opening Group A match of the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 in Doha on Saturday.

After being sent to bat first, Hong Kong posted 167-8 in 20 overs, in response, Bnagladesh ‘A’ team cruised to 171-2 in just 11 overs, following Habibur’s record-breaking 35-ball 100.

Chasing the target, Bangladesh raced to 107 for no loss at the end of the first powerplay, propelled by Habibur's explosive batting, which featured eight fours and 10 sixes.

Habibur broke the previous record of fastest century held by Parvez Hossain Emon, who reached the century in 42 balls during the Bangabandhu T20 Cup match in December 2020 in Dhaka.

Habibur, who was destructive from the onset, reached his half-century in just 14 balls, making another new record for the fastest half-century in T20s by a Bangladeshi.

He surpassed the previous record held by Shuvagata Hom, who claimed the feat in 16 balls during the Dhaka Premier League T20 in 2019.

Skipper Akbar Ali played an unbeaten 41 off 13, including six sixes. He smashed five straight sixes to wrap up things early while Jishan Alam contributed 20.

Earlier, Babar Hayat top-scored with 63 off 49 balls and Yasim Murtaza made a brisk 40 off 22 to help Hong Kong reach a decent total.

Bangladesh ‘A’ team will play their next match against their Afghanistan counterparts on November 17.
