A college student was killed and another was injured when a truck ran over their motorcycle in Choddopai area on Rajshahi鈥揘atore highway in Rajshahi city on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Naim Islam, 23, an honours third-year student of Rajshahi College and son of Md Sadhu of Maskatadighi area in the city.
The injured, Rohan Islam, 22, son of Saiful Islam of the same area, was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Witnesses said that the accident occurred at about 4:00pm when the duo youths were travelling towards the city鈥檚 for online work at an IT centre,
As they reached Bihas Mor, a truck coming from Binodpur hit their motorcycle, leaving Naim dead on the spot and Rohan injured, they added.
Meanwhile, in the immediate aftermath, an enraged crowd set the truck on fire and blocked the highway.
Later, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Matiher police station officer-in-charge Abdul Malek said that they had seized the burnt truck but the driver managed to flee.
鈥楾he victim鈥檚 body will be handed over to the family after completing legal formalities,鈥� he said, adding that necessary legal actions would be taken later.
