The auction of the forthcoming Bangladesh Premier League will take place on November 23 at a city hotel, confirmed Bangladesh Cricket Board on Wednesday.Â
This will mark only the second time that the BPL is having a players’ auction rather than a players’ draft.Â
‘This year’s auction will signal the beginning of a new franchise ownership cycle. The event introduces a restructured and transparent bidding process designed to align the BPL with international T20 franchise standards,’ said the BCB in a press release.Â
According to the regulations, each franchise can sign up to two players from category A and B, whose base prices are Tk 50 Lakh and Tk 40 Lakh, respectively.Â
However, 11 local players must be recruited through the auction with a minimum of one from A, two from B, three each from C (base price Tk 22 lakh) and D (Tk18 lakh), and two from E (Tk 14 lakh). There’s no limit to players from category F (Tk 11 lakh).Â
The minimum and maximum number of local players in a squad would be 13 and 15, respectively.Â
The bid increment for category A is Tk five lakh, whereas it is Tk three lakh and Tk one lakh for B and C, respectively. The other categories will see an increment of Tk 50 thousand. Each franchise can spend up to Tk 4.50 crore for the local players, excluding the local signings.Â
For overseas players, there will be five categories from the base price of 35,000 USD to 10,000 USD.Â
An unlimited number of overseas players can be registered by each franchise throughout the tournament. However, two of them must be recruited through the auction, and a maximum of two can be signed before the auction.Â
For overseas players, the team purse will be 3,50,000 USD, and that includes the direct signings.Â
Each franchise must field a minimum of two and a maximum of four overseas players during each match’s eleven.
