Iqbal Hasan’s six-for and Mohammad Abdullah’s valiant 95 were in vain as Bangladesh Under-19 suffered a 47-run defeat to their Afghanistan counterparts in their fourth Youth ODI at the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium on Friday.Â
In reply to Afghanistan’s 258 in 49.3 overs, the hosts were bundled out for 211-9 in 50 overs despite Abdullah’s gritty knock as the visitors took 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
Faisal Khan Shinozada led Afghanistan to a fighting total with his 116-ball 112 after the visitors opted to bat first. Faisal struck 10 fours and four sixes in his innings.Â
He stitched a partnership of 121 runs for the third wicket with Uzairullah Niazai, who made 72 off 100 with 11 fours and a six.Â
Iqbal took six for 51, while Saad Islam took 2-62, but Faisal kept digging in despite losing wickets from the other end.Â
Abdullah and Debashish lifted the hosts from a precarious position of 40-6 in the eighth over with a partnership of 108 runs for the seventh wicket.Â
But after Debashish fell for 51 off 61, Abdullah couldn’t keep up the pace. He added 59 runs with Shadhin Islam for the eighth wicket, but time had run out by then.Â
Abdul Aziz Khan took four for 28 runs for the visitors, while Wahidullah Zadran and Nazifullah Amiri each took two wickets.Â
The fifth and final match is scheduled on November 9 at the same venue.Â
