Mahfijul Islam and Naim Sheikh both struck centuries as Mymensingh division dominated Rangpur on the opening day of the second round match of the National Cricket League at the Cox’s Bazar Academy Ground on Saturday.
Opting to bat first, Mymensingh posted 281-2 in 82 overs at stumps, after openers Mahfijul and Naim formed a 220-run partnership to put their team in control.
Mahfijul scored 127 off 228, hitting 13 fours and two sixes before being trapped lbw off Jahid Javed and Naim made 111 in 163 featuring nine fours and two sixes, scoring his 11th List-A hundred.
Aich Mollah and Abdul Mazid were batting on 23 and 8 runs, respectively.Â
Mehidy Hasan Miraz struck early to reduce Rajshahi 87-3 in 20 overs at stumps, as they were still trailing Khulna by 34 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Â
Opting to bat, Khulna batters faltered and were bundled out for just 121 in 44.5 overs.
Mrittunjoy Chowdhury (23) offered brief resistance, while the rest of the batting lineup wobbled against disciplined bowling off Rajshahi.
Meherob Hasan (3-5) and Nihad Uz Zaman (3-29) claimed three wickets each.
In reply, Rajshahi batters also struggled as Mehidy took 3-42.
Sabbir Hossan made run-a-ball 39. Shabbir Rahaman and Pritom were unbeaten on 20 runs each.
Sylhet pacers Ebadot Hossain (3-49) and Khaled Ahmed (2-25) ran through wickets to leave Dhaka at 120-5 in 43.1 overs during their rain-interrupted Day 1 at the Sylhet Academy Ground.
After top-order collapsed to 25-3, skipper Mahidul Islam Ankon and veteran Marshal Ayub gave some respite to Dhaka by forming a 51-run stand.
Marshall Auyb departed after making 28 off 72 while Mahidul remained unbeaten on 36 off 101.
Opening batter Sadikur Rahman hit an impressive 122 off 174 deliveries, which featured eight fours and five sixes to propel Chattogram to 260-4 at stumps at the Cox’s Bazar International Stadium.
Sadikur, who scored his third century in first-class cricket, formed a solid 143-run partnership for the second wicket with Mominul Haque, who remained unbeaten on 84.
Mahmudul Hasan also contributed crucial 35 while last-match’s centurion Yasir Ali Chowdhury was dismissed for just eight runs.
For Barishal, Yeasin Arafat, Ruyel Miah, Tanvir Islam and Shamsur Rahman picked up one wicket each.
