Afif Hossain claimed six wickets, including a hat-trick, as Khulna were eyeing victory against Barishal after the completion of the second day of the National Cricket League at the Khulna Divisional Stadium on Sunday.

After posting 313 in the first innings, Khulna enforced follow-on to Barishal after they were all out for 126 in 41.3 overs. Barishal were 119-4 in the second innings and were still trailing by 68 runs.


Afif completed his hat-trick when he had the last three wickets of Shamsul Islam, Yeasin Arafat, and Ruyel Miah, all lbw, in the 42nd over of Barishal’s first innings. The off-spinner finished with 6-31, the second best of his career.

Abu Hider’s explosive maiden hundred and Rakibul Hasan’s five-for put Mymensingh in a commanding position over Sylhet, who were trailing by 203 runs with five wickets remaining, at the Sylhet International Stadium.

Hider, who came at eight, struck an unbeaten 107 off 105 balls, where he smashed 10 fours and six sixes. Mymensingh posted 401 in the first innings after becoming 243-7.

Sylhet made 198-5, despite having an opening partnership of 73. Shykat Ali was retired hurt before Rakibul kept striking regularly. The left-arm spinner finished the day with a figure of 5-68.

At the Outer Ground of Sylhet Stadium, Naeem Islam’s 34th first-class hundred helped Rangpur to take a lead of 87 runs with two wickets remaining.

Rangpur were 146-5 in reply to Dhaka’s 221 in the first innings before Naeem constructed an 88-run partnership with Tanbir Hayder for the sixth wicket. He added a further 56 runs with number nine Alauddin Babu.

Rangpur were 308-8, with Naeem batting on 111, who has hit 16 fours so far. Ripon Mondol took 3-54 for Dhaka, while Salauddin Shakil and Taibur Rahman each took two wickets.

Hasan Murad’s 6-39 strengthened Chattogram’s position over host, Rajshahi, at the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium.

Rajshahi were all out for 196 in 54.4 overs, as Sabbir Hosen and Sabbir Rahman scored 57 and 54 runs, respectively.

Shakhir Hossain was Hasan’s fifth scalp, who bagged his 14th five-for. Chattogram then made 133-4 in 30 overs to take a lead of 338 runs at the end of the second day.

Mahmudul Hasan hit a run-a-ball 51, followed by his first innings hundred. Another centurion, Yasir Ali, was batting on 26, while Irfan Shukkur remained unbeaten on 18.
