Yasir Ali smashed an unbeaten half-century as Chattogram finished the league phase of the National Cricket League T20 on top of the points table with a five-wicket win over Dhaka at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, outer ground, on Tuesday.
Chattogram restricted Dhaka to 119-6 after the match was reduced to 13 overs due to rain. Then the port-city outfit reached 123-5 in 19.2 overs, with Yasir scoring 53 off 27 balls.
After being put into bat first, Dhaka made a brisk start with opener Jishan Alam hitting 21 off seven before getting bowled by Ashraful Hasan Rohan. Following that, spinner Hasan Murad picked up two consecutive wickets to leave Dhaka at 46-3.
Mosaddek Hossain and Ariful Islam added a 25-run stand to provide some resistance, but another spinner, Nayeem Hasan (1-18), came into the act to break the partnership.
Dhaka then lost another couple of wickets until Mossaddek and Shuvagata Hom made sure they lost no further wickets and formed a 34-run partnership to help them cross the 100-mark.聽
Mossaddek and Shuvagata remained unbeaten on 32 and 10 runs, respectively. Murad was the peak of Chattogram bowlers with 3-21.
Chasing, Chattogram鈥檚 top-order faltered and eventually fell into a precarious 36-4, then skipper Yasir and Irfan Shukkur steadied their ship, putting a 62-run partnership together.
Yasir, who was adjudged player of the match, struck four boundaries and three sixes in his knock, while Irfan contributed 30 off 15 deliveries with three sixes.
Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby took 3-11, and Ripon Mondol picked up 2-13 for Dhaka.
In the afternoon鈥檚 game at the same venue, Khulna beat Sylhet by 11 runs (DLS method) to finish the league phase in second聽place.
Khalid Hasan scored 31 off 23 balls as Sylhet scored 136-6 after the match was reduced to 16 overs as rain delayed the toss. Khulna鈥檚 Sheikh Parvez claimed 4-16.
In reply, Khulna made 103-4 in 11 overs and was adjusted as the winner as rain intervened again. As per the DLS method, Khulna was 11 runs ahead.
Anamul Haque played an unbeaten 19-ball 33 with three boundaries and two sixes.
Nabil Samad (2-26) and Naim Hossain (2-25) each picked up two wickets.
Chattogram and Khulna will play the first qualifier, after finishing with eleven points from seven matches, respectively, while Dhaka and Rangpur will fight for a place in the聽eliminator.
