Mahmudul Hasan struck his maiden ton as Chattogram thrashed Sylhet by 99 runs in the ongoing National Cricket League T20 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
After being put into bat first, Mahmudul smashed five fours and nine sixes in his magnificent 63-ball 110 to help Chattogram post 214-6 in 20 overs, the highest total in the tournament so far.
In reply, Sylhet managed just 115 in 18.1 overs, after Md Rubel鈥檚 3-15, Ahmed Sahrif鈥檚 2-15 and Hasan Murad鈥檚 2-17, resulting in Chattogram moving to the top of the table with nine points from six games.
Mahmudul and Mominul Haque made a strong start, as they put up 63 for the first wicket; however, Mominul was dismissed for 32 off 19.
Chattogram had to slow down a bit in the middle as they lost two more wickets until Mahmudul and Irfan Sukkur added a 122-run partnership. Irfan contributed a crucial 41 off 22, featuring four boundaries and two sixes.
Tofael Ahmed was the peak of the bowlers for Sylhet with 3-37.
Chasing a huge target, Sylhet lost their captain, Zakir Hasan, for one in the very first over.
Chattogram bowlers ripped through the batting line-up, as only three of their batters reached double figures.
Opener Amite Hasan scored 40 off 25, while Khalid Hasan made 18, and a late 37 off 25 from Abu Jayed Rahi helped Sylhet cross the 100-mark.
In the other match, Ziaur Rahman鈥檚 all-round performance propelled Khulna Division to secure a 17-run win against Dhaka Division at the same venue.
Opting to bat first, Khulna posted 186-7 in 20 overs, thanks to Afif Hossain鈥檚 quickfire 45 off 25, with four boundaries and three sixes, and he picked four wickets with back-to-back wickets in the final over to restrict Dhaka to 169-9.
Skipper Mohammad Mithun scored 41 off 28, Imranuzzaman 34 and Ziaur鈥檚 unbeaten 17 helped Khulna climb to second spot.
Dhaka captain Mahidul Islam Ankon top-scored with 47 off 36, while others fell under 30. Apart from Ziaur鈥檚 four-for, pacer Mrittunjoy Chowdhury picked up two wickets for Khulna.
