The club representatives, who withdrew their nominations from the forthcoming BCB elections, proposed three fresh demands on Thursday, including deferring the elections.

Tamim Iqbal and 15 other candidates, including three from categories 2 and 3, withdrew their nominations on Wednesday. Tamim stated that cricket had lost on that day and urged the BCB to ‘stop the fixing’.

However, Tamim was not seen when a team representing the clubs came to the BCB premise at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Thursday.

Rafiqul Islam Babu, who was a candidate from Indira Road Krira Chakra, said that they’d come to have a cup of tea with the chief executive officer of the BCB, Nizamuddin Chowdhury.

But they couldn’t meet him, as it was a government holiday. Later, Rafiqul presented their fresh demands.

‘We are saying that the way this election has been conducted [so far], with repeated schedule changes, submission of councillors’ names, cancellation of councillors from districts and divisions even after submission, and the cancellation of 15 clubs—these complications will ultimately harm cricket,’ Rafiqul told reporters.

‘We want these issues to end and for a fair election to be held. That is what I want to talk about today,’ he added.

Rafiqul, addressing the advisor of the ministry of youth and sports, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, as ‘the guardian of all sports in Bangladesh’, said that the matter with the 15 clubs could be resolved by changing the election process.

When Rafiqul was asked how the election process can be deferred beyond the term of the current board, he suggested forming an ad hoc committee.

‘Our one proposal is to extend the term of the current board according to the rules and regulations. One other way is to reschedule [the election]. If that happens, then the capable organisers who were snubbed can come back,’ he said.

‘There is another thing, though I don’t know whether that can be covered. That is, an ad hoc committee can work for a few days,’ he added.

Mirza Yasir Abbas from Azad Sporting Club, who withdrew his nomination, and running candidate from Dhaka Division, Abdullah Mohammad Fuad Redwan, were also present with Rafiqul.

The elections is scheduled on October 6.Â
