Current president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board Aminul Islam Bulbul on Tuesday confirmed his intention to contest in the upcoming board elections, stating that he didn’t want to leave the projects ‘half done’.Ìý

Aminul took charge of the BCB after Faruque Ahmed was scrapped from the position in May.Ìý

‘We will hold the election in the first week of October; that will be a proper election. The election is not to elect a president directly; board directors are elected. That is the first objective, and I will try to be part of that,’ Aminul told reporters in Sylhet on Tuesday.Ìý

Then later in the day, Aminul explained the reason behind his intention in another interaction with the media.Ìý

‘I still haven’t discussed anything with the NSC [National Sports Council] yet. I only expressed my wish to participate, if possible. The only reason is the projects we started are going really well. I don’t want to leave those half-done. I want to take those forward. That’s why I want to participate,’ he said.

Aminul, the first Test centurion of the country, became a director of the BCB via the NSC before becoming the president.Ìý

After becoming the BCB boss, he stated that he wanted to play a quick T20 innings. But now he wants to switch into the ODI mode.Ìý

‘I talked about a T20 innings, yes, but that’s not over yet. If I am to continue, I may have to switch to 50-over mode. More importantly, I have decided to continue to take the projects to the next stage,’ said the former national team captain.Ìý

Earlier, senior vice-president of the BCB, Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, on Monday announced that the first week of October was confirmed as the probable date of the forthcoming elections.Ìý

It was also reported that another former national team captain, Tamim Iqbal, also expressed his intention to contest in the polls.Ìý

Aminul said that he hadn’t got the chance to talk to Tamim on this topic.Ìý

‘I haven’t talked with him yet [Tamim]. But I will have my respect and help since we’ve all come here to work for cricket,’ he said.Ìý

Aminul was a development manager in the ICC before coming to Bangladesh to take charge of the BCB.Ìý

After the ousting of the Awami League government in August last year, several BCB directors, including the then president and the sports minister, Nazmul Hasan Papon, fled the country.Ìý

Their whereabouts are still unknown.Ìý
