Bangladesh’s T20 series against Pakistan will go ahead after being put in jeopardy due to cross-border clashes between India and Pakistan earlier this month, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Tuesday.
The Bangladesh national cricket team was set to play five T20 internationals beginning May 25 but will now play three matches, the dates of which have yet to be confirmed.
All three matches are now expected to be played after the Pakistan Super League final on May 25.
‘The decision was made after a long meeting between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Bangladesh Cricket Board director Nazmul Abedeen and president Faraque Ahmed,’ the PCB said in a statement.
‘PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi expresses gratitude to Bangladesh Cricket Board director and president for finalising their visit to Pakistan,’ the statement added.
The statement also said that Naqvi convinced Faruque and Fahim of full security. They met in the UAE, where the Bangladesh national team is currently playing in a T20 series against the hosts.
According to the Future Tour Programme of the ICC, the tour comprised three T20s and ODIs each. However, both boards agreed to play two extra T20s instead of three ODIs with an eye to their preparation ahead of the Asia Cup and next year’s T20 World Cup.
But the scenario changed earlier this month when India and Pakistan clashed for four days— their worst conflict in decades—before a ceasefire agreement.
Pakistan was also forced to reschedule its T20 league, the PSL, after a 10-day break. The Indian Premier League—the world’s richest cricket tournament—was also interrupted.
The BCB earlier said that it wouldn’t force anybody to tour Pakistan.
Rishad Hossain and Nahid Rana, who were playing in the PSL before it was suspended, didn’t return after the league resumed.
However, former captain Shakib Al Hasan joined Lahore Qalandars as a replacement player. Mehidy Hasan Miraz also left Bangladesh on Tuesday to join Shakib in Lahore.
