Former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan is set to feature in the Pakistan Super League for Lahore Qalandars for the remainder of the season.

Shakib confirmed the development to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on early Thursday.

The PSL will resume on May 17 after it was suspended due to the rising conflict between Pakistan and India.

Two other Bangladeshi players, Rishad Hossain and Nahid Rana, who had participated in this year’s league before its pause, had returned to Bangladesh and were now on their way to Dubai to play in a two-match T20 series against the UAE.

As it was pushed back, there were uncertainties over the return of some foreign players, including Rishad and Nahid.

Understandably, that opened the door for Shakib, who has been out of competitive cricket since November last year, when he played in the Abu Dhabi T10 League for the Bangla Tigers.

Rishad, in fact, was playing for Lahore — the franchise Shakib would feature— who are currently fourth in the points table.

Earlier, Shakib had to undergo tests after he was suspected of an illegal bowling action during his county stint with Surrey in England last September.

He was finally cleared to bowl again in March after successfully completing an independent reassessment, a test he had failed twice before.

The 38-year-old was not picked in the Bangladesh squad for the last Champions Trophy, which was held in February-March, despite being permitted to play as a specialist batter. Shakib earlier said that he would retire from ODIs after playing in that tournament.

Shakib, who was a former MP of the now-ousted Awami League government, is yet to return to Bangladesh since August last year.

He intended to bid farewell to Test cricket with the match against South Africa in Mirpur last year but was unable to return to the country.

Shakib last played for Bangladesh in the two Tests against India in September, and his last ODI came during the 2023 World Cup.

Shakib, who last played in a T20I in last year’s World Cup, also said that he was done with that format.
