Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was roped in by IPL franchise Delhi Capitals on Wednesday as a replacement for Australia batter Jake Fraser-McGurk for the remainder of the season.

However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board officials said that they were unaware of Mustafiz’s signing, who was on his way to Dubai on Wednesday evening with the national team to play against the UAE in a two-match T20I series starting on May 17.

Mustafiz, who went unsold in the IPL auction earlier this year, would join Delhi for six crore rupees, according to reports.

The IPL is set to resume on May 17, which was suspended for a week due to the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict.

Delhi made the announcement of signing Mustafiz via their official social media channels, welcoming him back into their ranks.

‘Mustafizur Rahman is back after two years! He replaces Jake Fraser-McGurk, who is unavailable for the rest of the season,’ stated the franchise.

This would mark Mustafiz’s second stint with the Capitals, having previously donned their jersey in earlier editions of the tournament.

Mustafiz has so far played 57 IPL matches and has 61 wickets against his name. He has played 106 T20Is for Bangladesh, picking up 132 wickets from the same.

But while the Delhi camp seemed excited to get Mustafiz, the BCB officials were reported to say that they were unaware of the latest development, as Mustafiz didn’t ask for an NOC required to play in the richest cricket league.

Mustafiz himself posted a photo of himself on social media in the evening where he said, ‘Heading to UAE to play against them. Keep me in your prayers.’

Bangladesh are supposed to tour Pakistan for a five-match T20 series after the UAE tour, but the Pakistan series remains uncertain as the PSL was pushed back for a week earlier.

The national commitment will therefore make it tough for Mustafiz to participate in the IPL.

Delhi, who are currently fifth in the table with 13 points from 11 games, have just three games left in the league phase. Their next match is scheduled on May 18 against the Gujarat Titans.
