A day after seeing the highest total (422) registered in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League history, the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium witnessed Shinepukur Cricket Club being dismissed for just 69 runs against Legends of Rupganj on Monday.
There are only six lower totals than Shinepukur’s 69 in DPL, after which they suffered a crushing 10-wicket loss to Rupganj.
After being put into bat first, Shinepukur made 28 runs in the opening stand. Then the hell broke loose as they started to crumble against the spin duo of Mahedi Hasan and Tanvir Islam, along with pacer Rejaur Rahman.
From 28-0 in the ninth over, Shinepukur were all out in 25.5 overs. Rejaur and Tanvir took three wickets each while Mahedi scalped two. Part-timer Saif Hassan also got one wicket.
Rupganj then aced the target inside the first powerplay with all wickets remaining as openers Tanzid Hasan (35 off 20) and Saif (39 off 37) took no time. This was the second 10-wicket win by Rupganj this season.
Gazi Group Cricketers also registered a huge win by 175 runs against Dhanmondi Sports Club at the BKSP-4.
Gazi Group posted 298-7 in 50 overs after a collective batting performance with Anamul Haque and Shamsur Rahman scoring 69 and 60 runs, respectively.
Dhanmondi lost their way in the second ball of their run chase when they lost opener Ashikur Rahman. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals as no partnerships could reach the 30-run mark.
Like batting, all the bowlers contributed for Gazi Group. Wasi Siddique took 3-29, while Abdul Gaffar and Aridul Islam took two wickets each.
In the other match of the day, Agrani Bank won comfortably as they beat Gulshan Youth Club by six wickets at the BKSP-3.
Opting to bat first, Gulshan managed 222 before getting all out in 49 overs as the batters faltered, except Liton Das, who has been struggling with his form, scored his first fifty of the season as he made 60 off 62.
Arif Ahmed took three wickets for Agrani Bank while Robiul Haque and Ruyel Miah took two wickets apiece.
Agrani Bank also faced some early trouble while chasing as they lost two wickets for just nine runs.
But a third wicket partnership of 134 runs between Imranuzzaman (75) and Amite Hasan (63) lifted them from that precarious position before another 73-run unbroken partnership between two senior campaigners, Marshall Ayub (40) and Taibur Rahman (35), got them home with six balls remaining.
