Naim Sheikh smashed his career-best 176 off 125 balls as Prime Bank Cricket Club thrashed Brothers Union by 173 runs after making a record 422-8 in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday.

This is the first time a team has reached the 400-mark in DPL, with the previous highest being Abahani Limited’s 393-4 in 2018.

Prime Bank now also holds the record total in any List-A game in Bangladesh, surpassing India’s 409-8 in an ODI in Chattogram in 2022.

After being asked to bat first, Prime Bank got off to a flying start as the opening stand between Naim and Sabbir Hosan (73 off 63) reached 140 in 18 overs. Naim, who reached his fifty in 38 balls, then added 86 off 68 with captain Zakir Hossain.

Left-handed Naim needed 81 balls to reach his hundred and then came with all guns blazing. His last 75 runs came off 43 balls. He hit 18 fours and eight sixes in his innings, meaning 120 runs came in boundaries, which is the joint third highest in DPL.

Naim was finally dismissed by Salauddin Shakil in the 39th over before amassing the fourth highest individual score of the DPL.

But Naim’s dismissal didn’t halt Prime Bank’s progression as Sajjadul Haque (50 off 37) and Abdulla Al Mamun (40 off 22) helped them to breach the 400-mark and go beyond.

In reply, Brothers stumbled to 249 in 42.3 overs despite Aich Molla’s fighting 96 off 110 balls. Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain took three, while Hasan Mahmud, Khaled Ahmed, and Shamim Hossain took two wickets each.

The other two matches of the day were not as eventful as this, where Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Limited won their respective matches against Partex Sporting Club and Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club, respectively.

Captain Tamim Iqbal’s hundred eased Mohammedan’s run chase of 218 runs as they beat Partex by a comfortable margin of seven wickets at the BKSP-4.

Mohammedan’s left-arm spin duo of Taijul Islam and Nasum Ahmed — who took four and three wickets, respectively—helped to restrict Partex to 218 in 46.3 overs. Ahrar Amin Paean top-scored with 78 off 86.

After losing opener Rony Talukdar in the second over of the run chase, Mohammedan were cautious. However, Mahidul Islam couldn’t make up for his slow start as he got only six runs off 35 balls.

Tamim, though, remained firm and shifted his gear. The former national captain needed 63 balls to reach his fifty, while the next 50 came off 38 balls. The southpaw remained unbeaten as Mohammedan got home in 40.2 overs.

At the BKSP-3, Rupganj managed 260 in 50 overs thanks to Al-Amin Jr’s 104 off 89 balls. Rakibul Hasan took three while Nahid Rana and Mosaddek Hossain took two wickets each.

Abahani chased that down in 47.3 overs with four wickets remaining. Mohammad Mithun top-scored with 60 off 61, who was aided by Mosaddek (47*), Parvez Hossain (47), Jishan Alam (39), and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (37).
