Bangladesh women’s A team clinched the one-day series over their Sri Lankan counterparts with a seven-wicket win in a rain-curtailed 20-over-a-side second and final game at the Thurstan College Sports Complex on Tuesday.

The first game of the series was washed away due to rain and wet outfield.

Winning the toss, the hosts opted to bat as they were restricted to 113-5 in 20 overs. Two leg-spinners—Rabeya Khan and Fahima Khatun—took two wickets each for the visitors.

Sri Lanka lost three wickets inside the first six overs. Captain Sathya Sandeepani (36 off 39) and Piumi Wathsala (22 off 36) steadied the ship.

Malsha Shehani’s 25 off 14 balls then helped them to go past the 100-run mark barrier.

Chasing a modest total, Bangladesh lost Shamima Sultana, who was out of the game for a long period due to illness, in the first over.

But a 74-run partnership off 60 balls between Dilara Akter (47 off 34) and Murshida Khatun (30 off 34) laid a strong foundation for Bangladesh. Dilara missed out on her fifty for three runs but struck three boundaries and a couple of sixes.

Nigar Sultana Joty and Ritu Moni then took the tourists to 117 with two overs to spare. Joty remained unbeaten on 24 off 21 balls, while Ritu contributed 11 off 16 balls.

Bangladesh ‘A’ will now play a five-match T20 series against the hosts, which starts on Thursday.
