A daylong workshop has recently been held in Dhaka with representative entrepreneurs from Nagorik Sheba centres, Digital Centres and e-Post Centres in all 64 districts to implement the ‘Nagorik Seba Bangladesh’ initiative.
The event, organised by the Information and Communication Technology Division with support from the Aspire to Innovate Programme, has taken place at the Dak Bhaban at Agargaon in Dhaka, said a press release.
The workshop covered the objectives, targets and scope of the Nagorik Sheba platform, the roles and responsibilities of entrepreneurs, platform management and user processes, live demonstrations of services including BMET and BRTA, e-government skills, service centre branding, customer service and behavioural competencies.
Participants also received hands-on training on basic concepts of digital security, cyber security and data protection, as well as the safe use of basic and advanced digital tools.
The workshop was chaired by ICT division secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury.
Special guests were director general of the Postal Directorate SM Shahab Uddin; director, mails, of the Postal Directorate Kabir Ahmed; joint secretary, digital governance and security wing of the ICT division Md Mujibur Rahman; and a2i joint project director, joint secretary, Md Rashidul Mannaf Kabir.
The workshop was inaugurated by a2i project director Md Abdur Rofiq. The welcome remarks were delivered by a2i’s head of project management Abdullah Al Fahim.
Shish Haider Chowdhury said that time, cost and complexity remained major challenges in accessing government services in Bangladesh.
‘In this context, entrepreneurs at Digital Centres, Nagorik Sheba Centres and e-Post Centres are working as the front-line actors of the service delivery system,’ he noted.
He also said that the entrepreneur-led service model was simultaneously expanding access to services and ensuring quality and public trust through trained entrepreneurs.
He further stated that to reflect people’s expectations for easy and hassle-free services, chief adviser Muhammad Yunus launched the ‘Nagorik Sheba Platform’ on May 26.
Through this platform, citizens will be able to apply for and receive various government services—such as national ID, birth registration, passport, online GD, land services, trade licence, ticketing, social protection, BRTA, agriculture and health services—from a single point, he said.
