The High Court on Wednesday directed the Dhaka University authorities and the Department of Environment to protect and properly maintain eight playgrounds on the university campus.
The bench of Justice Md Shohrowardi and Justice Dihider Masum Kabir issued the order while disposing of a public interest litigation filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.
HRPB filed the petition in 2012, attaching a newspaper report published on September 24 that year, which stated that DU students were being deprived of playing opportunities despite the presence of playgrounds on the campus.
