India’s Border Security Force fired three to four pellets in the Sreerampur border area at Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat district on Monday, injuring three Bangladeshi villagers.

The incident occurred at about 6:00am on the day.

Following the incident, the Border Guard Bangladesh called for a flag meeting, but the BSF reportedly did respond to the request.

According to local people, three Bangladeshis were reportedly injured in the firing and are reportedly receiving treatment secretly at a private hospital in Rangpur.

However, detailed information about their condition could not be obtained.

According to BGB officials, members of the 156-BSF Battalion from the Ratanpur camp patrol team fired three to four pellets at about 6:00am.

The BGB, however, said that they were not aware of anyone being injured in the incident.

A resident of Shreerampur said, ‘On my way back from prayers, I saw injured people being taken away on a motorcycle.’

Following the incident, personnel from Sreerampur Camp of the Rangpur 61-BGB (Tista-2) Battalion and Shamshernagar Company rushed to the area. Kamal Uddin, commander of the Shamshernagar Company under the Rangpur 61-BGB, said that a flag meeting had been requested, but the BSF had not responded to the request.

This incident comes just five days after the BSF fired three sound grenades in the same border area.   Â
