The Bangladesh Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition concluded its two-day 6th international conference at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Convention Centre of Bangladesh Medical University in Dhaka on Saturday.

The conference featured several programmes, including scientific seminars, attended over 600 participants, including teachers, foreign medical experts, specialist physicians, doctors and students attended the conference, said a press release.


Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam, vice-chancellor of the BMU, attended the opening ceremony as chief guest, which was presided over by Professor Dr ASM Bazlul Karim, president of the society.

Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad, BMU pro-VC, administration; Professor Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Howlader, pro-VC, research and development, attended as special guests; and Prof Dr Md Atiar Rahman, dean of the faculty of paediatrics, attended as guest of honour at the conference.

The welcome address was delivered by Professor Dr Md Rokonuzzaman, general secretary of the society, while its treasurer Dr Md Atiar Rahman delivered the vote of thanks.

The conference emphasised on the prevention, treatment and awareness of gastric, liver and nutrition-related problems of children as well as the advancement of modern paediatric gastroenterology services.

The speakers stressed the need for greater focus on research and medical education in the field of paediatric gastroenterology and nutrition, emphasising on ensuring proper nutrition that is essential for children鈥檚 overall health and wellbeing.
