The Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested a notorious robber at Sundarban along with weapons and ammunition during an operation Thursday morning.
The arrested is Kamrul Sardar, 55, of Ashashuni upazila in Satkhira. He is an active member of notorious robber gang Dulabhai Bahini in Sundarban.
Coast Guard Base Mongla carried out the operation in the area near Kumrokathi Canal in Dakop upazila of Khulna.
A press release, signed by BCG media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, said that members of the Dulabhai Bahini were present in the area for criminal activities. Acting on the information, a special team launched the operation at around 6:00am.
During the operation, when the robbers tried to flee, one of them was chased and arrested. The team also recovered a single-barrel gun, three live cartridges, and seven empty cartridges from him.
Kamrul has long been involved in robberies in Sundarban as a member of the Dulabhai Bahini. He, along with the recovered items, is being handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue its operations to keep Sundarban free from robbers, read the release.
