The National Citizen Party on Thursday said that forming an electoral alliance with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party or the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections was possible if the parties agreed to major reforms.

‘We are ready to consider a coalition with the BNP or the Jamaat only if they commit to key reforms and justice for the victims of the July massacre,’ said NCP chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary at a press briefing at its central office in Dhaka.

The party’s political stance is guided by principles rather than convenience, Nasiruddin said, adding that discussions were also under way with several parties in the Ganatantra Mancha platform.

He dismissed online speculation about possible negotiations with the BNP over seat sharing or ministerial posts.

‘The BNP has failed as an opposition party over the past 15 years. How can they succeed as a ruling party?’ said Nasiruddin, questioning the BNP’s readiness to lead the country without major structural reforms.

The remarks came as the NCP began the nomination process aiming to select party candidates for the upcoming 13th JS polls announced to be held in the first half of February 2026.

The NCP chief coordinator said that the party would prioritise individuals having strong ties to ordinary citizens rather than those with partisan affiliations.

‘We welcome lawyers, teachers, doctors, farmers and daily wage earners — anyone who truly represents the people. The only criterion for nomination is their commitment to serve the people,’ he said.

However, Nasiruddin ruled out any consideration for activists from the Awami League or the Jatiya Party, even if they had a clean image and no criminal record.

NCP nomination forms are being sold for Tk 10,000, though discounted to Tk 2,000 for ‘July fighters’ and low-income applicants, the party said.

According to the NCP, the sale of nomination forms will continue until November 13, with a preliminary list of candidates expected to be announced on November 15.

Tasnim Jara, senior joint member secretary of the NCP and head of its central election committee, said that nomination forms could be collected in person from the party’s central office or obtained through regional coordinators, and be submitted online.
