A three-day ‘First Charukola Animation Festival 2025’ began at the faculty of fine art of Dhaka University on Tuesday.
The festival consisted of animation films, panel discussions, cosplay shoot, GIFs and meet the animators at the venue.
Out of 85 submissions, the festival screened 34 animation productions while 19 were created by Bangladeshi animators and 15 from international segments, most of them created by Germen and Finnish animators, said the festival director Mubtasim Alvee.
On open call selection, featured films included The Sky was Candy, HELPLINE, Shadow, Flight, A Mi Kuk, Fishbowl, Mission to Minerva, Paranoid Delusion, TOY CARS, Mourning and Pawtales- A Trikstr Animated Film.
On Bangladeshi selection, featured films included Captain Kathal in Baper Rasta, Team Dalim, Gularu, All The Place We Go To, Invasion of the Hattim, Chander Buri, Quarks and Socks, The Amazing Falaful, A Train to Nowhere Trailer and Tale of Tagore.
A panel discussion on the State of Bangladeshi Animation – Challenges and Pathways Forward was also held at the opening day of the festival participated by the industry insiders.
Today, animators Oishik Jawad, Rakeeb Razzaq and Junaid Iqbal Ishmam will share their journey on an event titled ‘Becoming an Animator’ at the Lecture Theatre of the venue.
The festival also organises a fair with some stalls of comic books, calligraphy, caricature and food at the venue.
The festival will end on October 30.
