The Dhaka University’s 87th batch students of the Faculty of Fine Art are displaying art works at a group art exhibition under way at the Zainul Gallery of the university.

The six-day exhibition titled Charukala 87 Art Exhibition is featuring 98 artworks of 30 artistes, who were the 1987-1988 batch students of the then institute of the DU.


Artists AKM Monzur Morshed, Amal Das, Aminul Hasan Litu, Debashis Pal, Fahmida Khanum Sima, Goutam Chakraborty, Hafizuddin, Haroon Alrashid, Homayra Afroza, Elias Hossain, Kamal Hossain, Enamul Haque, Mukul Barai, Nabina Latif, Najib Tareque, Nani Gopal Halder, Nasir Uddin Ahmed Khan, Rabiul Alam, Rakib Anam Anjan, Zayedur Rahman, Shahadat Hossain, SM Sayeduzzaman Shellym, Srabon Khan, Sultana Rubi, Shohela Purvin Shova, among others, have displayed artworks at the exhibition.

The artworks have been created using different mediums, including oil, acrylic, glass paint, water colour, paper quilling, colour pencil, mixed and others. Besides, artistes are also displaying terracotta works and sculptures.

Artist Jhunu Akter’s acrylic work ‘Charukala Pond’ shows trees and the path circled the pond on the FFA premise.

One of the water colour paintings of artist Zakir Hossain titled Pather Bake depicts the landscape of an urban area while another painting titled Rangamatir Path shows the landscape beauty of greenery and hills of the district.

Two oil paints of Nazia Sharmin – ‘In Motion’ and ‘Swing in Colours’– show a girl playing swing in each painting.

The exhibition is the third group exhibition under the platform of ‘Charukala 87’, said artist Adib Sayeed.

Artist Mohammad Shajahan Swapan said, ‘It is not just an exhibition, it is also a get-together as the exhibition has brought friends of 37 years under one roof. The exhibition will help to create a new bridge among the friends.’

Inaugurated on June 29, the exhibition will end on July 4.
