At least 13 people, including five children and four women, were killed and eight others injured in separate road accidents in Chattogram, Noakhali, Pabna, Sherpur, Nilphamari, Madaripur and Bagerhat districts between Saturday night and Sunday.

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that a mother and her son were killed when a pickup van collided with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in front of the forest office on the Karerhat-Ramgarh road in Mirsarai upazila of Chattogram in the afternoon.


The deceased are Rabeya Khatun, 40, and her son Md Hossain, 12.

The accident occurred at around 3:00pm when the pickup hit the auto-rickshaw, leaving the two critically injured. They were rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead.

Jorarganj police station sub-inspector Nur Alam said that the vehicle involved in the accident was seized.

Three persons were killed and another three injured in separate road accidents in Maijdi and Sonaimuri upazilas of Noakhali, reported ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· Correspondent.

The deceased are Abul Kalam Azad, Md Mamun and Shamsher Shah.

Businessman Azad was killed and three others were injured when their microbus hit a standby truck from behind in Maijdi market area.

Motorcycle rider Mamun and pedestrian Shamsher were killed Saturday night when the motorcycle rider lost control.

Two police team from Sudharam model thana and Chandraganj highway thana visited the scene.

Three persons, including two school students, were killed and two others injured when a goods-laden truck ran over a passenger van in Pabna Sadar upazila in the morning, BSS reported.

The deceased are Tasmiya Akter, a fourth grader, and Abu Toha, a fifth grader, both students of Pabna Collegiate School and College, while another was van driver Akram Hossain.

Madhpur highway police seized the truck.

A five-month-old infant—Habiba Nur Riana—was killed and her mother Rupali Begum injured in a road accident in Shivbari Circle at Nakla upazila of Sherpur on Sunday, another BSS report said.

The accident occurred when a battery-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a battery-run auto-van.

Locals rescued them and sent them to Nakla upazila health complex where the duty doctors declared Riana dead.

A grandmother and her 14-day-old granddaughter were killed in the morning when a pickup truck hit them on their way to a vaccination centre in Nilphamari’s Dimla upazila, reported United News of Bangladesh.

The deceased are Surya Khatun, 55, and her granddaughter Samia Akter.

The pickup driver fled the scene immediately but the vehicle has been seized, said Dimla police station OC Fazle Elahi.

A 55-year woman, Fatema Begum, was killed in a road accident in the Ukilbari area of Ghatmajhi union of Madaripur Sadar upazila, reported BSS.

Madaripur fire service inspector Sheikh Ahaduzzaman said that the accident took place when a bus hit the woman and fell into a roadside ditch.

BSS also reported that a woman, Sikta Khatun, was killed and two others were injured when a truck hit a passenger van in the Bahirdia Jamrultala area of Fakirhat upazila in Bagerhat Saturday evening.

Sikta died on the way to Fakirhat upazila health complex, while the injured were sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

Fakirhat model police station OC Abdur Razzak Mir said that they seized the truck and arrested its driver and helper.
