Taking part in a mass hearing, Anti-Corruption Commission chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen on Sunday solved several issues of service seekers instantly and took action against several people who were found guilty.
Allegations included taking kickbacks from service seekers and the influence of intermediaries at government facilities like hospitals.
The mass hearing began at Jashore Shilpakala Academy in the morning and continued till the evening.
Chaired by Jashore deputy commissioner Azaharul Islam, the mass hearing was attended, among others, by ACC commissioner (investigation) Mian Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi, Jashore superintendent of police Rounok Jahan and ACC director Jalal Uddin Ahmed.
At the mass hearing, the ACC chairman heard a total of 75 complaints against some 37 government, semi-government, autonomous and financial organisations.
The ACC chair heard the complaint of one Ilias Hossain who alleged that the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority took a bribe of Tk 12,000 from him for providing a heavy category driving licence.
The complainant said that he paid the money to a broker named Sohel.
The ACC chair instantly ordered the superintendent of police to arrest Sohel and asked Wazed Hossain, assistant director of the BRTA, to take immediate action in this regard.
In another case, the ACC chair ordered the authorities of a 250-bed hospital to suspend employee Pabitra Kumar for mistreatment of a child.
Abdul Momen also ordered the hospital authorities to take steps to check intermediaries’ activities at the hospital complex and improve the quality of diet of patients.
The ACC chair asked the authorities of Jashore district council to suspend its office assistant Alamgir for taking bribe from a client.
At the hearing, he also took instant steps against a number of other officials and employees of different offices.
