A group of miscreants snatched Tk 12.4 lakh away from three employees of a private-run transport agency at Kadamtali under Dakshin Surma in Sylhet on Sunday.
ENA Transport’s Sylhet counter manager Shafiqul Islam said that he along with his colleague Mostafa and Sohel Ahmed were going in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw from the counter located at the Central Bus Terminal to deposit the money to a bank at the Kadamtali Point, merely a kilometre away from the transport counter.
But a group of 10 helmeted miscreants boarding on five motorcycles and armed with sharp weapons stopped their vehicle in front of the Muktijoddha Chatwar at Kadamtali and snatched away the bag containing Tk 12.4 lakh and fled the scene instantly.
Dakshin Surma police officer-in-charge Mizanur Rahman said that the police went to the spot after being informed by the people of the area.
‘Among the five motorcycles used by the miscreants, only one had the number plate covered with tape,’ he said, indicating that the robbery was pre-planned.
He also added that the police have collected the CCTV footage from the surrounding area and launched an investigation.
‘Preparation is underway to file a case in this connection,’ he said.
