A female model on Saturday at a press conference in Sylhet city demanded stern action against a man and his two associates in particular, alleging that they had been running a heinous cyber bullying campaign for long against her.Â
Lima Begum Nusrat, 26, of Dungshri village under the Moglabazar police in Sylhet, held the press conference at Sylhet Zilla Press Club on Saturday afternoon, demanding that the perpetrators be immediately stopped from ‘making her life a living hell’.
Lima said that she appeared in promotional videos for different companies advertising their products, adding that while doing these jobs she came across Jubel Miah, 28, son of Abdul Majid of Durgapur village at ​​Nabiganj upazila in Habiganj several years ago.Â
‘Since he was my co-worker, I behaved with him in a friendly manner,’ she said, alleging that at one stage Jubel Miah started saying sexually suggestive things and finally made sexual propositions.Â
Saying that she right away rejected his propositions, Lima told the press conference that Jubel responded to her rejection with threats and began spreading vile things about her on the social media.
Attaching her photos with different men in different compromising situations using artificial intelligence and other software and apps Jubel and his accomplices were spreading on different social media platforms, Lima told journalists.
Among the heinous activities perpetrated by Jubel and his two associates were two fake Facebook pages on which they were giving obnoxious fake posts, damaging her life.
Facing the harassment, Lima filed a with the Sylhet cybercrime tribunal in 2024, responding to which the court assigned the Police Bureau of Investigation to probe the case.
‘The PBI investigation confirmed my complaint was true and submitted a report to the court accusing Jubel. But, when the law ministry issued an order to cancel the cases filed with the cybercrime ​​tribunal, my case was also put on hold,’ Lima said, alleging that the situation emboldened Jubel making him more desperate.
‘He is making my life a living hell,’ Lima said.
Having mentioned that she was once again moving the court to seek justice, the youth made a public appeal at the press conference for everyone’s support.
