Social welfare and women and children affairs adviser Sharmeen S Murshid on Saturday said that the Children Act 2013 required amendments to protect children.

‘Children should be turned into human resources,’ she said while addressing a workshop titled Children’s Act 2013: Doubts, Confusion and Inconsistencies, organised by the Law Commission and UNICEF Bangladesh at a hotel in Dhaka.

The adviser said that child protection and development was not only the responsibility of the government. ‘It is the moral and social responsibility of everyone. If we can develop today’s children into self-reliant and good citizens, the future will also develop beautifully.’

Law Commission chairman Justice Zinat Ara and UNICEF Bangladesh country representative Rana Flowers addressed the workshop as special guests.
