Two people were killed and at least 12 others were critically injured after a bus of Shanti Paribahan overturned at Khagrachari鈥揅hattogram regional highway in Sapmara area of Matiranga upazila on Friday.聽
The accident took place at about 11:00am.
The deceased were identified as Md Abdur Razzak, 72, of Kolakhali Muslimpara area of Dighinala upazila, and Anil Chakma, 32, of Chowdhurypara area.
Abdur鈥檚 wife, Momtaj Begum, said that her husband had boarded the Chattogram-bound bus from Dighinala, and the bus overturned while it was descending from Alutila hill due to tyre burst.
Abdur and Anil died on the spot, while the critically injured were admitted to Adhunik Zila Sadar Hospital, Khagrachari, said assistant superintendent of police of Matiranga Circle Kazi Wazed Ali.
He said that further details about the accident would be shared later.
Being informed, police, army, and fire service personnel, with the help of local residents, went to the spot and rescued the injured.
