The Rapid Action Battalion arrested three suspects in illegal sale of train tickets along with a bulk of train tickets at Shaistaganj Railway Junction in Habiganj on Tuesday night.
The arrested are Md Sohel Miah, 33, son of Abdul Noor of Dakshin Barachar village, and Enam Miah, 34, son of Sayeed Ali of Daudnagar village, both villages in Shaistaganj upazila, and Md Jalil Sardar, 40, son of late Junaid Miah of Noagaon village at Baniachang upazila in the district, the RAB said.
RAB-9 media officer KM Shahidul Islam Sohag told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they conducted a drive at Shaistaganj Railway Junction at around 9:30pm Tuesday and arrested the three men and seized 700 current and advance tickets of intercity trains run on Sylhet-Dhaka and Sylhet-Chattogram routes.
He said that the arrested were part of an organised gang of train ticket black marketeers.
‘They have been involved in the black marketeering of train tickets for long. They used to create an artificial crisis by collecting bulks of tickets online and offline. Later, they sell these tickets to passengers at much higher prices,’ the RAB officer said.
He also said that the Shaistaganj upazila nirbahi officer, also an executive magistrate, later conducted a mobile court operation on Wednesday early morning and sentenced the three arrested to 15 days of non-rigorous imprisonment and fined each of them Tk 500.
Later, the three convicted were sent to Habiganj district jail, he also said.
