Bashundhara Group chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and four members of his family on Monday submitted a petition to a Dhaka court seeking permission to go abroad for medical treatment.

Lawyer Khorshed Alam, on behalf of them, filed the petition with the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court seeking the permission.

According to the petition, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, his wife Afroza Begum, sons Safiat Sobhan Sanvir and Safwan Sobhan, and daughter-in-law Sabrina Sobhan (wife of Bashundhara Group managing director Sayem Sobhan Anvir) are suffering from various ailments and require treatment abroad.

The lawyer in the petition requested the court to withdraw the existing travel ban on them to allow them to leave the country.

After the hearing, the court judge, Md Sabbir Faiz, directed the head of the Anti-Corruption Commission inquiry team to submit a report on October 26 regarding the application, said ACC court inspector Aminul Islam.

The court set the same date (October 26) for a further hearing on the matter.

On October 21, 2024, the same court imposed the travel ban on Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and seven family members in connection with corruption allegations, following an ACC petition.

The ACC is conducting inquiry against Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and his family members over allegations of amassing illegal wealth and laundering money abroad.
