A youth was killed and 6 others were wounded in a clash between two groups of villagers at Dakatia under Kotwali police station in Jashore on Thursday morning, said Abul Hasnat Khan, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station.
The clash erupted following an altercation over the theft of an easybike, the OC told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
The deceased is Chanchal Hossain Gazi, 30, son of Madhu Gazi of Dakatia village.
The wounded Madhu Gazi, 50, father of the dead, mother Hasina Begum, 45, brothers Munna Gazi, 18 and Tuhin Gazi,26, and members of opponent group Jamal Uddin Gazi, 35, Rabiul Islam Gazi, 35 and Billal Hossain Gazi, 39’ were undergoing treatment at Jashore General Hospital.
Madhu Gazi, father of the deceased claimed that after stealing the rented easybike of Chanchal Hossain Gazi, Rabiul Gazi and Billal Gazi along with others fined Chanchal Tk 2 lakh accusing him for the theft.
Chanchal and 6 others were wounded as two groups of villagers locked in a clash as a consequence of the accusation at around 10am on Thursday. The attending doctor Galib Hossain declared Chanchal dead as soon as they were rushed to Jashore General Hospital at about 11:35 am, said the medical officer.
The OC Abul Hasnat Khan said that a case was lodged with Kotwali police station in this connection and three people were detained for questioning.
