Five members of the police were injured in an attack during a raid to recover a stolen mobile phone about midnight past Tuesday at Nabiganj upazila in Habiganj.

The injured are Nabiganj police sub-inspector Mehedi Hasan Sarker, assistant sub-inspector Mosharraf Hossain, constable Mainul Islam, Shah Imran and Paltan Chandra Das, according to the police.

Nabiganj police officer-in-charge Sheikh Md Kamruzzaman told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the injured were immediately admitted to Nabiganj Upazila Health Complex.

‘Constable Shah Imran has been shifted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for better treatment,’ he said.

The police officer told that upon a written complaint, a team of the police led by SI Mehedi Hasan conducted a raid on Noapara of Shibpasha village at the upazila at around 11:30pm Tuesday.

During the raid they detained Ruman Miah, 28, after recovering a stolen mobile from his possession.

Ruman locked in an altercation with the police claiming himself as the phone’s owner.

‘At one point, Ruman’s brother Mamun and several women armed with sharp weapons attacked the police, injuring five of them,’ the OC said.

Mamun told reporters that his brother Ruman had brought the mobile phone from another person and he did not know anything about the complaint of stealing.

Nabiganj OC told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that being informed of the attack, additional police force rushed to the spot and arrested four people, including Mamun, from there.

‘SI Mehed filed a case in this connection early Wednesday,’ he said, adding that the arrested were produced before the district judicial magistrate court about noon.

The court ordered for sending them to jail.
