
A team of Anti-Terrorism Unit of police arrested a fugitive accused at Bhatara in Dhaka on Tuesday night.
The arrested Mahannan Karim Amith, 42, son of the late Nazrul Karim, a resident of Road 4 under Sector 4, Uttara in Dhaka.
A team of ATU arrested Amith, an accused in a case filed with a Dhaka court under Negotiable Instrument Act in 2014, in the Bhatara area, said a police press release.
According to the case details, the arrested gave a cheque of Tk 1 crore to one of his relatives against an agreement of purchasing a flat at Shahjadpur area under Gulshan in 2014 and the cheque was dishonoured by the bank for not having sufficient balance.
聽As the detained did not return the money, the relative filed the case with a Dhaka court.
The court, after the conclusion of the trial, on October 8, 2017, sentenced the accused Amith to one year of imprisonment and a fine of Tk 1 crore.
After the announcement of the verdict in the case, the accused had been hiding in various places to avoid arrest.
The detainee was handed over to Uttara Purba police station.
