A man stabbed his wife to death on the premises of Dharmapasha senior judicial magistrate court in Sunamganj on Monday.

The deceased, Sharifa Akter, 28, daughter of the late Ramzan Ali, a resident of Dewangram under Mohanganj in Netrakona, was wife of Akhter Hossain, of Kandapara village under Dharmapasha, said the police.

Sharifa’s lawyer Abdul Hai told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that Sharifa had returned to her parents’ home at Dewangram from Akhter’s house in July after protesting against torture by her husband for dowry.

On September 8, Akhter filed a case with the Dharmapasha upazila senior judicial magistrate court against Sharifa’s mother and her two sisters on charge of keeping her captivated forcefully in their house, he said.

At around 10:00am Monday, Sharifa came to the upazila judicial court to attend in a scheduled hearing in the case. Before the court was started, Akhter suddenly stabbed to Sharifa on the court premises and injured her critically, Abdu Hai said.

Dharmapasha police officer-in-charge Mohammad Enamul Haque said that Sharifa was taken to the Dharmapasha upazila health complex after rescuing her and the attending doctor of the health complex referred her to Mymenshingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

‘She, however, died on her way to the MMCH,’ the OC said, adding that the suspected killer was arrested from the spot immediately after the attack.

‘Legal step IS underway in this connection,’ he mentioned.
