
Bangladesh earned their first-ever medal in the Asian Youth Games when the girls’ kabaddi team beat Sri Lanka by 47-40 points in their fourth match at the Isa Sports City in Manama, Bahrain, on Tuesday.
Bangladesh ensured a medal in their third attempt in the multi-disciplinary games following their medalless campaign in the previous two editions in 2009 and 2013.
With the win, Bangladesh confirmed bronze medal from the girls’ kabaddi event as one of the top four teams among five teams – Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Iran and Thailand – that are competing in this event.
In the day’s match, Bangladesh dominated the first half by 25-18 points before both teams earned 22 points each in the other half of the game.
Bangladesh girls earlier lost to India by 46-18 points, Iran by 33-19 points and Thailand by 38-30 points.
A total of 60 athletes from Bangladesh are participating in 13 disciplines – athletics, badminton, boxing, basketball (3x3), cycling, golf, judo, kabaddi, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, weightlifting and wrestling.
