The police have arrested a 55-year-old man in connection with the alleged rape of an eight-year-old girl in Gazipur.聽
The arrestee Bhojendra Sarkar, a vice president of a local Puja mandap in Gazipur, was produced before a court on Thursday, said Kashimpur police officer-in-charge Moniruzzaman.
According to local people, the victim, a student of Grade I, was playing with her friend near her house at about 11:30am on Wednesday while puja was on-going.聽聽
At one stage, Bhojendra, son of Meghlal Sarkar of the Ashrayan project area of Surabari, lured the child away to his house and raped her, they said.
Having been alerted, victim鈥檚 relatives found her inside the house with her mouth gagged with a towel, catching Bhojendra red-handed.
They handed him over to the police.
The OC said that the victim鈥檚 mother filed a rape case on Wednesday evening and the accused was shown arrested.
He added that initial evidence of rape was found and the child was sent to the forensic department of Gazipur Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for medical examination.
