The police arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged rape of a housewife by armed robbers at Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia.
The rape and robbery incident took place on the night of September 15 in a village of Hogolbaria union in the upazila.聽
The incident came to light after the victim lodged a case with the Daulatpur police in this connection on September 22.
According to the police and local people, a gang of 7鈥�8 men led by one Labu, 36, Tarique, 42, and Subel, 35, first looted cash and ornaments from a nearby house.聽
On their way back, they stormed into the victim鈥檚 home and gang raped her keeping her 3-year-old child at knifepoint and made off with valuables worth about Tk 2 lakh.
Neighbours rescued the woman in an unconscious state and admitted her to hospital. She was later shifted to Kushtia General Hospital.
Local people also said that her family was initially discouraged from taking legal action, but later the victim woman and her father-in-law filed two separate cases on September 22.
Daulatpur police officer-in-charge Solaiman Sheikh said that they arrested three men in connection with the rape and robbery.
They were acting to arrest the rest of the accused, the OC said.
