
The National Legal Aid Services Organisation has provided legal services to 4,465 cases of the labourers across the country from 2009 to July this year, official sources said on Saturday.
According to a report published on the website of the organisation, it has realised compensation worth about Tk 6,69,26,215 from different factory owners for the labourers so far.
The legal assistance cells in Dhaka and Chattogram provided 21,682 legal suggestions to the labourers. The organization has settled 815 cases out of 4,465 during the time. It also took up 3,301 initiatives to meet up the cases through alternative dispute resolution method of which a total of 1,914 cases have already been resolved through ADR. The total beneficiaries from Dhaka and Chattogram legal assistance cells are 29,448.
The National Legal Aid Services Organisation has been providing legal assistance to the financially insolvent and marginalised poor people without any expenses.
The services were initially introduced for the poor and insolvent people at district levels.
Later, it was introduced in the Supreme Court through a toll-free number, 16430, and a call centre and two specialised cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.
The NLASO has been rendering the services under the direct supervision of the Law and Justice Division of the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry.
