The department of urban and regional planning of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology and the Chattogram Development Authority signed a memorandum of understanding at the meeting room of the CDA in Chattogram on Thursday.

At the beginning of the ceremony, a discussion meeting was held on the Chattogram Metropolitan Masterplan project. After the discussion, the programme took formal shape with the signing of an agreement between the CDA and the CUET as vetting consultants, said a press release.


The agreement was signed on behalf of the CUET by Fowzia Gulshana Rashid Lopa, head of the URP department; and on behalf of the CDA, by deputy chief urban planner and project director of the Masterplan Project, Md Abu Isa Ansari.

The meeting was presided over by Md Nurul Karim, chairman of the CDA.

Among others, CUET acting vice-chancellor Professor Kazi Afzalur Rahman, dean of the faculty of architecture and planning and team leader of the Masterplan Vetting Project Professor Muhammad Rashidul Hasan, CDA secretary Rabindra Chakma, special magistrate Mohammad Nazrul Islam and chief engineer Kazi Hasan Bin Shams were present at the event.

Professor Afzalur Rahman said, ‘We are hopeful that the department of urban and regional planning of CUET will complete this vetting activity with efficiency and dedication. I believe that this work will play an important role in the sustainable development of Chattogram metropolitan city.’

Md Nurul Karim said, ‘The Chattogram Metropolitan Masterplan is very important for the future development of the district. With the involvement of experienced teachers and researchers from CUET in the vetting process of this plan, we are hopeful that the quality of the plan will be further enriched.’

‘CUET’s academic expertise and research experience will make an important contribution to formulating a sustainable and realistic development plan for our city,’ he added.
