Chinese high-tech manufacturing firm AeroSynth Limited is set to invest $3.5 million to establish a drone manufacturing facility at the BEPZA Economic Zone at Mirsharai in Chattogram.

According to a press release issued by the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority, this would be the second drone manufacturing project at the BEPZA EZ.

The company would produce a variety of drones, including toy drones, fishing drones, and drones for delivering lightweight products, with an annual production target of 1,50,000 units, creating job opportunities for 70 Bangladeshi nationals.

Md Ashraful Kabir, member (investment promotion) of BEPZA, and Hu Dandan, authorized representative of AeroSynth, signed the lease agreement on Wednesday at the capital’s BEPZA Complex in the presence of BEPZA executive chairman Major General Mohammad Moazzem Hossain.

Earlier on October 3, 2024, Bangladeshi company Sky Bees Limited signed an agreement to invest $45.95 million to establish an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV, commonly known as drone) manufacturing industry in the BEPZA EZ, as the first factory to manufacture drones in the zones under BEPZA, creating employment opportunities for 55 Bangladeshi nationals.

As of September 2025, six companies at the BEPZA EZ have already started production and export, while development work continues.

These operational industries have created employment for nearly 4,000 workers and exported products valued at approximately $19.92 million.

Several more companies are preparing to commence production soon, further expanding the zone’s industrial diversity.

On Wednesday’s signing ceremony, Abdullah Al Mamun, member (engineering); ANM Foyzul Haque, member (finance); Md Khorshid Alam, executive director (enterprise services); Mohammad Arifur Rahaman, executive director (security); Samir Biswas, executive director (admin); ASM Anwar Parvez, executive director (public relations), along with representatives of AeroSynth Limited were also present.

According to the BEPZA, Sky Bees’ drone manufacturing project at the BEPZA EZ has already been under implementation, focusing on producing drones for agricultural pesticide spraying, firefighting, emergency rescue, product delivery, cinematography, and mapping.

Meanwhile, the BEPZA witnessed a sharp rise in Chinese investment over the past 16 months, driven by China’s shift toward high-value products and ongoing US-China tariff tensions.

As of Wednesday, 27 entirely Chinese companies and 6 companies, where China is a partner, have invested in various zones of the BEPZA since July 2024.
