Shipping, labour and employment adviser retired Brigadier General M Sakhawat Hossain on Saturday said that a six-lane highway would be built connecting Bhanga and Patuakhali.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Circuit House in Barishal city following visits to different parts of the city, the adviser also said that railway authorities were also preparing to construct a rail link from Bhanga to Patuakhali via Barishal.聽


He, however, noted that constructing the railway line between riverine Barishal and Patuakhali would require a large investment, and therefore the finalisation of the plan may take two to three years.

The adviser added that land acquisition for the railway up to Barishal was already completed and that the Development Project Proposal for the Bhanga-Barishal section has been submitted.聽

Sakhawat Hossain also informed that a water treatment plant to ensure supply of purified river water to the city鈥檚 residents would be launched by October.聽聽聽

The adviser also said that a Tk 810 crore project to prevent river erosion in Hijla-Mehendiganj was under review for approval and work might start by winter.聽

Besides, allocations were made for the development of Government Hatem Ali College and BM College, he also said.聽聽聽
