At least 86,690 people were killed and 1,53,257 more were injured in 62,619 road crashes in the country in the last 11 years, according to the Passenger Welfare Association of Bangladesh.
The association, a passenger rights based non-government organisation, at a discussion held on Saturday also urged the government to introduce advanced public transports to reduce the number of fatalities on roads and reduce traffic congestion.
They held the discussion at Dhaka Reporter鈥檚 Unity in the capital to mark the Passenger Rights Day, observed by them, said a press release issued by the association.
The association prepares road accident statistics based on reports published in different national dailies, seven online news portals, different electronic media and its own sources.
