The Dhaka Education Board on Tuesday directed heads of all non-government educational institutions under the board to form governing bodies and managing committees.

The directive came after the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the education ministry issued a circular in this regard on Monday.

In the circular, the division asked all non-government educational institutions under the ministry across the country to form governing bodies and managing committees by November 30.

All ad-hoc committees in the non-government educational institutions must be abolished by December 1, the circular added.

The urgent release, issued by the Dhaka board and signed by the board chairman professor Khondokar Ehsanul Kabir, said that the heads of all non-government educational institutions under the board were asked to follow the division鈥檚 circular issued on Monday.

Monday鈥檚 circular was issued regarding the formation of the ad-hoc and regular committees as per the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka and other boards (governing body and managing committee of non-government educational institutions at junior secondary, secondary and higher secondary education levels) rules, 2024 (amendment).

As per the amended rules, the non-government educational institutions having ad-hoc committees or where the tenure of the ad-hoc committees was expired have been asked to form governing bodies and managing committees on a mandatory basis by November 30.

The non-government educational institutions which have no ad-hoc committees at present have been asked to form ad-hoc committees by the next 15 days and then form governing bodies and managing committees on a mandatory basis by this November.

The education ministry on April 27 suspended formation of the governing bodies and managing committees of all non-government educational institutions.

After Sheikh Hasina resigned as the prime minister and fled to India on August 5, 2024, amid a mass uprising led by students, the education ministry on August 20 past year gave the divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers the responsibility for chairing the governing bodies in all non-government educational institutions under the ministry.

Later, on November 21, all of these educational institutions were asked to form ad-hoc committees.
